Match Trivia

The Hohe Warte sports field, which is gradually developing into a Viennese tourist attraction, already had numerous visitors has, the first game of the Scottish Professional. The Scots, athletically beautiful figures, in their neat sweats- blue shirts, white pants – entered the field, they were greeted lively. The referee Alpes did not hesitate long and opening the match. At first the guests showed nothing special. The ground did not suit them, being accustomed to the soft English lawn, they found the ground too hard. Nevertheless they immediately got used to it, and went on the offensive, but the Viennese were not baffled by the quite unexpected shots. Quite unexpectedly the First Vienna club, shortly after a throw-in, got the first goal, which of course was greeted by the audience with cheers. The guests slowly got used to the ground and develop the real Scottish attacking game in which, similar to rugby, cross the field passing, with striker at the fullest ‘speed’ offer a pretty sight. While on the run, and one of the strikers fired in a fantastic shot at the Vienna goal, but the Vienna defence with unshakable calmness and great mobility cleared the danger. Finally the Scots scored, Pekarna had no chance to keep the ball out, from a shot from distance. A magnificent shot from Speedie, which deceives the opposing backs with its lightning fast pace, is rewarded with another goal for the Scots. The Viennese keep constantly playing away; a little rough at times, but without disturbing the exceptionally neat and extremely fair Scots. This is particularly pleasing and gives the proof that unfair tricks and practices do not necessarily mean belong to the crafts of the professional teams. Because of ‘hands’ given against the Viennese and 11 metre kick was given, which finds the net. No more scoring took place and the first half ended with the score 3:1. No sooner had the game started again than the Scots scored their fourth goal. Only now the professionals started to show their real game, whose repertoire is very rich. The half-high pass and the pronounced wing play way at times to short laughable combination that we admired by the Corinthians. Then again follows another pattern of play which is more the Scottish tactics rather than the English which wants the ball more on the wing than just through the middle. This way of playing bring you visibly out of Vienna’s concept and you come into contact with the ball less often, but once they succeed in the brilliant advance, in which case a successful conclusion to the English ensure. Second goal for Vienna! New renewed cheers of the animated crowd. Meanwhile, the Scots increased the number of their goals to seven. All too soon the adjudicator announced the end of an interesting competition. The audience was completely satisfied with the performance of both teams First Vienna football club delivered the best game of the season.
