Fergie’s first FULL season at the club (1988/89) would see Rangers begin their historic run of 9 successive league Championships and Ian would be one of a select number to win a medal in each of these momentous seasons.
Ian would also earn 4 League Cup and 2 Scottish Cup medals during those NIAR years.
Whilst many of the NIAR side left the Club following the arrival of Dick Advocaat in the summer of 1998, Ian remained at Rangers and despite suffering from injury for a large part of the season he was back on the pitch in time to secure his second domestic Treble in the 1-0 Scottish Cup Final victory over Celtic at Hampden.
Ian would move on to Dunfermline the following season but remains one of the most decorated and popular players in the history of Rangers.
By a twist of fate, long time room mates Fergie and John Brown enjoyed their testimonial matches on the same date and both were cut entirely from the same cloth.
True Rangers in every sense of the word who gave their all every time they pulled on the famous blue shirt.
