Match Trivia

Falkirk, although losing by three goal to nothing against Rangers at Brockville yesterday, were not in point of ability so far out as the score would indicate. The Light Blues were somewhat fortunate in their first goal, which was scored by Dr Paterson on the eve of half-time. Ferguson the Falkirk custodian, who had played brilliantly, was deceived by the intervention of one pf his backs, who practically caught the ball as it flashed across from Archibald, and that little touch was sufficient to drive the ball to Paterson’s foot, and out of Ferguson’s reach. Up till that time there had been trilling passages at both ends. On one occasion Lock was fortunate to be in the way to intercept a cannon shot from Agnew, and the Bairns had a series of unsuccessful corners. Cunningham and Archibald changed places in the second half, and Dixon, who was injured in the first portion, went to outside right. From a free kick the ball was crossed from Paterson to Jimmie Gordon, and the right half, with a fine shot, sent the ball well and truly home. With twelve minutes to go Rangers had a comfortable lead, but the third goal came in quite an unexpected and almost comical fashion a minute or two before the whistle sounded. Archibald was the man who did the trick. He cleverly and elusively made his way past three or four of the home players, and to the surprise of the crowd evaded the Falkirk goalkeeper in equally dexterous fashion. Up to a point Falkirk played well, but lack of understanding among the forwards lost the game. Agnew of Ayr United, made his initial appearance for Falkirk but the inside men did not seen to ‘click.’ Rangers on the other hand, seemed to anticipate each other’s movements, and played with more confidence and skill, Bowie being the Chief for inspiration
