Match Trivia

The Rangers, Glasgow visited Falkirk on Monday evening, and played a friendly match with Falkirk in Brockville Park. There was an attendance of between 2000 and 3000 spectators. Falkirk won the toss, and the Rangers kicked off. Falkirk came away with the ballot the strangers’ quarter, and Dickie saved a good put in. The ball travelled along the left, and a good shot put in by the left forwards was well saved by Parlane. A free-kick was conceded to Falkirk shortly after, which put the leather into dangerous proximity to the home goal, but Dickie, with two successive fisters, cleared the ball. The Rangers then took the ball along the right, and within 10 minutes from the start of the game McPherson opened the scoring for the Rangers with a long shot. Three minutes later McPherson again registered with a second point. Play was all in favour of the strangers, and some clever passing and dribbling was displayed by the Rangers. Drummond’s sure and neat kicking from the back was greatly admired. Twenty minutes from the start A Smith put on a third goal with a neat shot. Play continued in Falkirk ground, and after half-an-hour’s play Smith scored a fourth goal. Rangers continued to press for a short time, and then Falkirk had a brief pressure at Dickie’goal, during which he saved a shot by Hamilton. Half-time – Rangers 4 goal; Falkirk 0. Falkirk resumed play, and immediately thereafter Dickie had to get rid of a shot by McLauchlan. Then Fearns sent the ball into the Rangers goal and it appeared likely to beat Dickie, but Glegg, who was standing off-side at the time, help the ball through, but the goal was promptly disallowed by the referee. Aided by several free kicks, Falkirk several times invaded Rangers territory, but without effect. After Parlane had saved once or twice, Hyslop beat him for the fifth time 15 minutes after resuming. Shortly after McLauchlan had a grand flying shot, which too Dickie all his time to save. Then at the other end, Parlane’s goal had to withstand a perfect bombardment, shots coming in from nearly all the Rangers forwards, but aided by the backs the ball was got away. While defending his goal, McLauchlan had the misfortune to injure himself by twisting his ankle to such an extent that he had to be carried off the field. Falkirk with their ten men, kept the Rangers from adding to their score. The second half was only half-an-hour duration. Result :- Rangers 5 goal; Falkirk 0.
