Match Trivia

At Brockville Park, Falkirk estimated attendance 12,000 drawings (gate and stand) £700. From the first run McPherson had a great chance of scoring, but a hasty shot went a yard wide. Both teams were very much excited, and it was some time before any combined play was seen. Falkirk left wing were clever, and their play latterly gave their side a slight advantage. Davidson twice in succession put over good centres, both of which were cleared by Stark and Rennie caught a good drive from McTavish. Bennett was responsible for most of the Rangers attacks and from one of his centres Murray hit the post with a hard drive. After this Rangers held a slight advantage, but the Falkirk backs were very clever, and neither side had scored at halftime. Early in the second half Simpson got clear of the defence to shoot straight at Rennie. In turn the Rangers forwards playing a nice combined game, got round Gibson and Reid, and Smith forced McKenna to give a corner from his shot. Simpson and Skene changed places without making much improvement in the attack, and eventually Devine failing to clear a shot from Murray the ball bounded out to McPherson who scored a pretty goal. There was a good deal of temper in the game after this, and the play suffered. Rangers maintained there bare lead to the finish, and on the run of the game quite deserved their victory
