Match Trivia

James Thomson Benefit Match, Rangers supplied the opposition to Dunfermline Athletic yesterday, when a benefit match for Thomson, of the Athletic, was played. Rangers had the wind in their favour in the first half, and scored four goals. Brown, the outside right, opened the scoring, and fifteen minutes later his namesake in the half-back line added a second. The next marksman was Duncan, who scored from a fine cross by Brown. The last to beat Sharp was Stewart, from about thirty yards’ range. The wind had a big say in the play, and after the resumption the home team came away strongly, and gave the Rangers’ defence a worrying time. Simpson put on the first goal for the Athletic with a lightning drive, and his was followed by one from Miller the centre, who shortly afterwards converted a penalty. The Athletic showed up better this half, and the juniors with whom they were experimenting gave a good account of themselves. Miller made a very tricky pivot, while the other two new forwards, Jackson and Simpson, were lively wingers. Hunter, a local product, who deputised for Hempsey in the visitors’ goal, had some excellent saves.
