In expectation of a large crowd for this encounter, the Dundee executive made special preparations, and it was well they did for there were fully seven thousand spectators. Right from the start play was fast and exciting, with never a dull moment in it. Rangers certainly did more excellent work, but with strong bustling tactics Dundee nullified their efforts. The Glasgow men had several glorious chances, especially Alex Smith and Hamilton, but their shooting was wide of the mark. Just on halftime Hamilton beautifully scored, after the custodian had saved from Smith, but W McDonald equalised amidst the greatest enthusiasm. Halftime – Rangers 1: Dundee 1. The visitors had more of the game in the second half, their opponents slackening their efforts predictably. Although keeping Dundee penned to their own territory, the Light Blues could not score, and it was only twenty minutes from time before Wilkie beat Stewart. There was no further scoring, and a game in which the Ibrox men got as good as they gave ended – Rangers 2: Dundee 1. Almost £120 was taken, including the stands.
