Match Trivia
Scottish Cup tie declared a friendly due to the state of the pitch. Saturday was fixed for the undecided Scottish Cup tie between these team. Dundee was the venue of the operations, but having regard to the nature of the weather, fears began to be expressed early in the week that it would be necessary to have the fixture postponed for the second time. The Dundee officials did everything in their powers to render the ground suitable, but despite their efforts the pitch was covered with liquid mud, rendering cup-tie impossibility. Early in the forenoon the fixture was declared off, but this notwithstanding the Rangers travelled to Dundee and played a friendly. The result was a draw – one goal each. As it happened however, the Glasgow men had hard lines, for on three occasions in which they placed the ball in the net, the referee refused to allow the point on account of offside. The game was witnessed by a crowd of several thousands, and while the play was not by any means a proper demonstration of the capacity of the respective teams, there were occasionally flashes of brilliant work.
