Match Trivia
This League fixture came off at Caroline Port, Dundee, and was witnessed by between 2000 and 3000 spectators. At the outset the Dundee front ranks made a dash for Bell’s charge, but they were intercepted by the halfbacks. The next time they got further forward, and Bell had to handle the leather. The Rangers retaliated, the front line shifting the scene of action with a bit of really magnificent combination. In the mouth of the goal play continued for some time. The Rangers form was worth a goal, but Sawers eventually got the ball away. The game proceeded vigorously, and while Dundee had quite a numbers of runs to the Glasgow citadel, it was quite apparent that the strangers were playing the strongest game. At an early stage Sawers tried a shot far out, but it passed over the bar, and then the Rangers forced the situation. Gaining a corner, Oswald shot the ball into the net, Barrett falling in attempting to save. Thereafter Dundee fastened on the leather and made fresh attempts to equalise. For a time the defending lines of the Rangers kept them in check. The citadel had however some narrow shaves. Thomson tried a long shot from the right, which Bell turned aside, but from a corner, which followed, the ball was banged into the net. Encouraged by their supporters Dundee followed this success up with brilliant work. It was not kept up however. Clearly the Rangers were playing more consistently, although the game was well advantage before they scored again. The leading shot came from Oswald, and the ball was hardly set in motion again when Barrett failed to stop an easy one. Rangers thus won by 3 to 1.
