Match Trivia

In presence of about 8000 spectators this match was played at Carolina Port Dundee. The homesters aided by the wind, made an auspicious opening and Keillor almost scored at the very outset. The back division of the Rangers were closely beset for some time, but a bad shot brought relief. It was apparent even at this early stage that Dundee was playing a winning game. Some beautiful short passing enabled Delvin to get into the very goalmouth with the ball, and the Rangers custodian was beaten by a low shot. It was then that the Rangers showed that they were not without resources, and some brilliant forward play was witnessed, play far superior as things go to that of Dundee at any time, Hillman the Dundee goalkeeper had to save and although the Rangers form deserved success they had to return pointless. Following upon this there was some muddling by Dundee, but before halftime fortune was again with them, Clark scoring a second goal. In the second half the Rangers worked hard pulling up, but the defending lines of the home team played steadily. It was in front of goal that the Rangers were signally unsuccessful. As before their open play was superior to that of Dundee. Before many minutes had elapsed Devlin tried a long shot, and the ball bounded into the net for the third time, touching Dickie’s fingers on its passage. The venue of operations was next transferred to the Dundee citadel, and Miller scored the first goal for the Rangers. The Dundee goalkeeper seemed to be taken aback, and he dealt more effectively with the next rush. A corner was next forced by the Glasgow men, and Hillman missing a stroke at the ball the Rangers were again successful, Smith heading through. No further scoring took place, and the game ended in a win for Dundee by 3 goals to 2.
