Match Trivia

About 500 spectators assembled at Carolina Port on Saturday to witness the last important match of the season. Soon after the start Rangers had a nice run the whole length of the field and besieged the home citadel, but Barrett managed to clear his lines. Not to be denied, however Rangers again pressed; and from a poor by Erentz, Cowan scored the first point. Dundee afterwards broke away, Gilligan getting off with the leather. He passed to Haddow, and that player sent the ball to McInroy who equalised. Rangers now worked with great determination, and before the whistle sounded Gray added a second point for them. In the second period Dundee played with better effect, being now favoured by the wind. Barrett was, however kept busy by the Rangers. Gilligan (forward) played a brilliant game for Dundee, and gave Gibson a lot of trouble. After a fine piece of combined work, Dundee got into the Rangers territory, and C Craig equalised with a beauty. A scrimmage followed in Haddow’s goal, but it came to nothing. Rangers broke away, but after Cowan had lost several chances both teams struggled hard for the winning point. Ferrier was now doing excellent service, and five minutes from the finish passed to Gilligan, who sent in a swift one which baffled the stranger’s custodian. The game thus ended in a win for Dundee by 3 goals to 2.
