These teams met at Carolina Port, Dundee on Saturday in a friendly fixture. Excellent football weather prevailed and about 4000 persons were present. Losing the toss, the Rangers kicked off against a slight westerly breeze. A smart passing run brought the leather within range, and Oswald shot straight in, but Barrett saved smartly. The blues came on again, and Barrett was again tested without result. The Dundee next attacked, and Longair, with a swift, low shot, almost brought a point, the goalkeeper just tipping it past. The corner kick was cleared, and the Rangers dashed off for the other end. Nearing goal Miller eluded the backs, and ran straight. Before he could shoot, however Barrett pounced on him, and lifted the ball from amongst his feet, a performance which was loudly cheered. The strangers were back in an instant and Miller this time had the best of it, landing the leather straight in the net. Dundee then set the pace, and Gilligan shortly wiped out the lead with a splendid effort. The ground team kept up the pressure, and Sawers lowered the Rangers colours a second time with a well-judged shot. Give-and-take play followed, Dundee if anything having the best of it. Latterly, through a misunderstanding amongst the Dundee halves, Smith found an opportunity, and sent the leather home well out of Barrett’s reach. Dundee invaded after this, but no further scoring took place, the first period finishing with the teams on level terms. Resuming the Rangers led the way, and Barrett had to save. Thomson and Sawers then got on, but the ball was carried over the line. After a spell of quiet play, Keillor forced a corner, and landed the ball in the mouth of the goal. Smith fisted away, and a penalty was awarded. A peculiar incident here occurred. As the kick was being taken, the goalkeeper left his mark and got the away, but Drummond in his eagerness, rushing it between the posts. The referee ordered the kick to be taken again, and this time Dundas drove the sphere safely home. Dundee were now leading by a goal, and the game became more exciting, the blues striving with might and main to reduce their leeway. From a couple of fouls, the ball was twice placed in the Dundee net without adding to the score. Dundee again ran west, and a fine centre of Thomson’s was converted, but the referee gave the point as offside. The Glasgow club from this right to the close kept up a continuous attack on the Dundee lines, but score they could not, the game ending – Dundee 3 goals; Rangers 2.
