Match Trivia
There was a strong westerly wind blowing, and the Rangers were fortunate enough to win the toss. There were over 10,000 spectators present. With the strong wind at their back, Rangers confined the homesters to their own goalmouth for the first 15 minutes. Their defence was however, unbeatable and Dundee came off with several dangerous rushes, chiefly on the left wing. The game was fast and exciting, fouls and corners being frequent. Five minutes from the close of halftime a foul kick was given against Longair, and the ball in a scrimmage was sent through. With the wind at their back Dundee pressed in strong fashion, and Dickie had several dangerous shots to negotiate; but he succeeded in clearing his lines each time. Corner fell to Dundee in rapid succession, and shots were rained in on Dickie, who preformed some brilliant saving. Dundee at last succeeded in finding an opening, and Battles, amidst a scene of intense enthusiasm equalised. Two or three minutes after, from a penalty kick, a severe scrimmage took place in front of the Rangers goal, and ultimately the ball was sent through. The homesters kept up the pressure innumerable corners being forced. Dickie was in grand form, and deserves credit for his display. The game ended – Dundee 2: Rangers 1.
