Match Trivia
Nearly 14,000 spectators, including a big number from Glasgow, watched this game at Den’s Park, in fine weather, on Saturday afternoon. Several changes in the Dundee team caused surprise amongst the home crowd. McAteer the centre half was played at centre forward, Jeffray, left back at centre half, and Cowie substituted Thompson at outside left. McColl did not appear for Rangers. Dundee won the toss, and aided by the wind, pressed strongly at the start. Bell missed an open goal, shooting high over the bar. The Rangers forwards were confronted by a strong defence. Hamilton opened the scoring for the Light Blues with a fast low shot. Dundee made a strong appeal for offside, which Mr Baillie, the referee did not grant. At halftime the Rangers led 1-0. Within a minute of the restart a shot from May, collided with Chaplin, from whose back the ball rebounded into the net. Dundee retaliated strongly, and for some time had the better of the exchanges with hard luck in failing to score. Allan was very safe in the Rangers goal. A penalty kick was granted against N Smith, but McAteer failed to convert. Hamilton scored a third goal for the Rangers as the result of a miskick by Chaplin. Result – Rangers 3: Dundee 0. The total drawings amounted to £341 odds
