Match Trivia
For most of the game it looked as if Dumbarton were to hold the Rangers, but, with twenty minutes to go, Meiklejohn volleyed through, and after that it was a procession of points for the Light Blues. McCandless took the next, converting a penalty. The third was a Henderson solo, and the fourth was left for McDiarmid. Just before Meiklejohn counted the Rangers’ supporters were thinking that they would be well out of it with a draw. Dumbarton were surprising themselves, all but before the goal, where they let all their good work go for nothing. In the first half Rangers opened prettily, but as the play developed, they cut up badly against an eager Dumbarton. The home side did everything but score, chance after chance eluding them, and, for Henderson and company, they were quite successfully checked, all but once, when McDiarmid gave to Bowie in an open goal, and saw the shot sent wide. At this time, it did not look like a game between the top and the bottom of the League. Over-anxiety spoiled the beginning of the second half, until King had been beaten, and then the visitors gave of their parlour football. McCandless was prominent in the Ibrox defence, and Meiklejohn at half-back. McDiarmid was the most resourceful forward, though the whole team long to make an opening. Dumbarton saw Robertson at his best at right half, until injured. Loney splendidly led the splendidly led the halfs, while Holleran was the one forward on form
