Match Trivia

This match attracted fully 6000 spectators to Cathkin Park last night. The weather was all that could be for May with a gentle breeze tempering the sun’s rays. Prompt on time the Dumbarton who had lost the toss, started the game. The Rangers close passing of the ball and obtained a corner, which Hislop converted into a goal. This smart work rather took the Dumbarton men by surprise, while it seemed to serve the ‘light blues’ with further exertions. Playing with confidence they completely hammed in the Sons of the Rock for the first 15 minutes. The Dumbarton defence was excellent, however and no further scoring was done. Ultimately Taylor and Galbraith broke away, but all they got was a fruitless corner. Coming away again the Rangers had the ball pass McLeod again, but the referee declined to grant the point as Hislop who took the goalkeeper was off-side. Shortly afterwards However McCreadie put on the second goal by beautiful shot. Haltime sounded with the score – Rangers 2 goals; Dumbarton 0 goals. After a short interval the game was resumed. For the first fifteen minutes the game was all in favour of the Rangers, but they could not increase their score. From a break-away on the left Taylor put on the first point for Dumbarton rather easily. This success made the Dumbarton redouble their effort, and after some neat play near Reid, J Miller equalised amidst great cheering. Play now became very fast, each goal being assailed in turn the Dumbarton if anything were having the best of the game. No further scoring was done by either team. The best men on the field were Gow, Marshall and Hislop, for the Rangers, and Boyle and Galbriath for the Dumbarton. Result – a draw – 2 goals each
