Tour of Germany - Rangers record of immunity from defeat here today. After a game full of thrills a Bavarian eleven beat them by the odd goal in three. This was the fifth and last game of Rangers in Germany. They won the previous four, and now go to Vienna. The Scots took some time to settle down. In fact, they seemed tired probably the result of their earlier matches, and their defence could not cope with the concerted rushes of the German forwards. The Rangers began to find their feet in the second half, however, and playing at a tremendous pace, fully upheld their reputation. Displaying excellent combination at the start, the home forwards swept down the field in menacing style. For the first few minutes, the Rangers were not in the picture. It was not surprising, therefore that, after the right winger Bergmaier, had missed a sitter, Rohr, the centre-forward, finished off a fine movement with a shot from Twelve yards out, which beat Dawson easily. Stimulated by this success, the Germans continued to press hotly, and should scored again when Lachner the inside left, missed an open goal. Then the Rangers rallied, and their forwards, with long sweeping passes, gave the German defenders an anxious time. Smith sent in a shot which just sailed over the bar, and a few moments later Jakob, who played a brilliant game in the German goal, did well to save a free kick from the same player. Nothing daunted, the German forwards returned to the attack, and it took sterling play by the Ibrox defence to prevent them from increasing their score. It was the Rangers who scored next, however. After launching several attacks, which were repulsed by Jakob and Wondl, the left back, McPhail equalised with a powerful drive from close range ten minutes before the interval. The rangers settled down quickly after the resumption, in spite of the fact that they were facing the wind. The Germans, however, played with great enthusiasm and skill. They fired in numerous shots, Lachner in particular being very dangerous. Twenty-five minutes after the interval, their efforts were rewarded. Lachner started a movement in which Roht and Lindner, the inside left, were concerned. Running, completely through the Scots defence, Rohr finished up with a shot from 25 yards to give his side the lead. The rangers made great efforts to get on equal terms again, but their forwards were too eager, and were repeatedly pulled up for offside. A last desperate raid in the last minute was brilliantly repulsed by Jakob, whose magnificent goalkeeping was the feature of the game. note Bavarian X1 were in reality the German International team
