Match Trivia

The Scots mingled with their speed. They set off from the first kick at a great pace that is not commonly seen in international matches. Yesterday they had given up their famous short passing, they also played a little hard, and it turned out that the Danes after close acquaintance with the famous Scottish Championship team could take some heart. The Scots triumphed 2-1. The home team had so many dangerous attacks and so decisively, that with little more attackers could have won the battle. There were fewer spectators on the track than there had been before with other international matches this year. The constitution of the workers had kept from going there, and the main mass of spectators for these matches is workers. The Danish team was not the ‘old one’ that we are used to, but the players were thoroughly young, and it turned out that in quick succession they surpassed the old ones. The Scots kick-off and ran immediately right up to the Danish goal. Only 3-4 minutes after the beginning of the game a goal was scored by the inside right of the Scots who headed in a beautiful goal from a corner kick, and for most of this half the Scots were in the Danish half. The Dane had some good tried from Alf Olsen and Wolfhagen, but an invisible hand keeps the ball from going in. Another 3-4 times the Dane came close. The Danes were missing Gyldenstein, who is an exceedingly fast and resolute wing, who against an inferior opponent would have made a difference. In the second half the game was more balanced. It was now the Danes who kept the pace. The Scots wanted, as all professionals did, to take a little off the pace, but Wolfhagen had another try at the Scots goal. They had to fend off an onslaught against the Scots and they had a shot at point blank range at Sofus Hensen, the Danish goalie. The Scots so gracious to aloud Svend Knuden as substitute, and the Danes were awarded penalty kick. Wolfhagen took the kick, the ball was partly saved, but Wolfhagen nevertheless managed to get to it and force it over the goal-line. However, the joy only lasted 3 minutes, as the ball was again in the Danish net. And although Klein, who was still a little anxious at the time, had several good shots, however the Scots seemed able to see out the match, without any more trouble.
