Match Trivia
A surprisingly good game was served up Clydeholm, where Rangers and Clydebank shared the valueless League points. The unexpected keenness of the game was reflected by the injuries, which resulted in both teams presenting an unusual appearance in the second half when the Clydebank goalkeeper and J Hamilton were seen as right wingers. A Cunningham as centre half, and Dixon and Hogg as backs. A draw was quite a good result, but with a little more sting near goal Clydebank might well have finished ahead. J Hamilton, soon after the start, stopped a dangerous drive from Reid at the expense of the injury which converted him into a passenger forward. Clydebank then faded out of the picture for a time, and Marshall capped a nice movement with a splendid goal through his business-like trapping of the ball and a delightful first-time shot. Goals came quickly in the second half, Smith gaining the equaliser without delay by a shot which rebounded off Cunningham and mystified Hamilton. Play veered again, and Marshall scored a spectacular goal with a low angular shot which injured Gallacher’s arm. Murphy took up duty in the Clydebank goal but was never seriously tested. A rousing twenty minutes was concluded by Reid nipping in between the Ibrox backs and levelling up matters with a shot which brooked no stopping. The Rangers’ honours chiefly went to Marshall, whose manoeuvring within small space and deadly shooting were features. Gray was the steadiest back afield. All the Clydebank defenders performed well, with Hogg outstanding. Chalmers was the most thrustful local forward
