Match Trivia
The Clyde’s closing Glasgow League fixture was played at Barrowfield Park before a poor turnout of spectators. Just as the teams kicked off rain began to fall pretty heavily, and there was a strong wind, blowing across the field. McPherson kicked off for the Rangers, who for the first five minutes kept play continued round Crozier’s charge. Some good play on the Clyde right wing left Crawford standing, but a series of tantalising misses in front of Dickie allowed Neil to clear. Leslie was playing a good game in centre for the Clyde, but he was poorly supported. Smith on the outside left was responsible for the first goal. Hyslop was not long in getting in a second with a fast shot, and the same player put on a third a minute later. Muir put some interest into the proceedings by running round Crawford and Leslie, finishing with a shot, which rebounded off the goalpost. Just before halftime a miss kick by Fyfe allowed McPherson to easily score a fourth goal, the Rangers leading by 4 to 0 at halftime. The Rangers were not long in getting to work on restarting. Low got away on the right, and crossing over Smith put in a header, which went through off the post. Leslie made some headway, and in a scrimmage round Dickie. Muir had hard luck in not scoring. Back came the Rangers, Hyslop scoring the sixth goal from McNicol’s centre. Mitchell got hurt in a tussle and went back, Crawford taking up his place. A Smith scored the seventh goal with a fast shot. Crawford was hurt in a scrimmage had had also to retire. Result – Rangers 7 goals: Clyde 0.
