Match Trivia

Tommy Singleton Benefit Match, There was nothing very special in the Shingleton benefit at Shawfield yesterday. The main thing is that Tommy will get a fairly good cheque, which he richly deserved. Off and on three thousand people turned out. On the hard ground the football was of the comedy order – Wille Robb ‘played’ inside right for the Rangers – but in the earlier stages the Clyde were due a goal. The points went to the Ibrox division, however, first McDiarmid and then ‘the Dane’ counting. In the second half Smith carried on when he should have kicked clear; a Shawfield man struck an upright, and Devlin chipped in to reduce the leeway. Things were quiet for a bit, but before the finish Devlin got in another counter and the match ended as most of the benefits do – in a draw
