Match Trivia
A crowd numbering quite 6000 assembled at Celtic Park yesterday to witness the match between these clubs. The Celts kicked off, and early were prominent for strong and dashy play. McCallum had a grand try, but Haddow saved brilliantly at the expense of a corner. Gradually the Rangers made headway, and Law sent in a scorching shot, which just went over the bar. Blyth was winded and the game stopped. He came round all right in a few minutes. The Celts were very quick on the ball, which travelled fast, the ground being ironbound. The Rangers did not respond to the attacks of their opponenets in the same spirit. Probably it was owing to the fact of the near approach of their undecided Cup-tie with Kilmarnock. At any rate they played more carefully than their opponents. The Celts were certainly showing the best football. Doyle and Reynolds kicking with great freedom and power. The forwards were like-wise effective, and received every support from the halfback trio. Madden shot a grand goal for the home team after 25 minutes play, with a straight shot, which Haddow could not save. Brady, in attempting to get the ball before T Dunbar, went clear over, and came down on the back if his head, with the result that he had to retire with flesh wound. He was playing capitally, but it was a pure accident, which brought about the injury. Dunbar, while attempting to clear, put the ball through his own goal. Mitchell was conspicuous for a fine bit of play, in which he outwitted McMahon. The Ranger had to leave later on, limping badly. At halftime the Celts led by 2 goals to 0. Brady re-appeared in the second half, after having the wound stitched by a doctor. Mitchell however was still absent. After fully 10 minutes play McIntyre came out in the Rangers colours, a heartily cheer greeting his appearance. The game was still in favour of the Celtic, whose attack was well directed, and the passing of the most fascinating description. Blyth, Dunbar and McPherson showed good play for the Rangers. Result – Celtic 2 goals: Rangers 0 goals.
