Match Trivia
With a westerly breeze against them the Rangers kicked off. The Celts at once carried the ball down the field, when it was however sent over the touchline. A corner kick then fell to the Celts, but the ball was nicely intercepted by the Rangers, and carried down to midfield, but beyond this the Ibrox players were not allowed to take it. In fact with the stiff breeze against them the Rangers could make no progress, while the Celts on the other hand, were shooting past and over the goal, not having as yet gauged the strength of the wild intelligently. A fine shot by Kelly 20 yards from the Rangers goal was cleverly fisted out by Haddow, but Kelly this time nearer goal landed the ball clean in the net inside 15 minutes from the kick off. A McCreadie had a shot at the Celts goal, but the passed the upright by about a foot only. The Rangers now having a look in, as Barker sailed down the field, and shot for the Celts goal the ball striking the post, however and spoiling Barker’s effort. The Rangers bit by bit were improving in their play, and J McPherson tried to score for them, but his effort like that made by Barker, was spoiled through the ball again striking the Celts post and going over the touchline. From a foul the Rangers almost scored a desperate fight-taking place right in front of the Celts posts, but by stubborn resistance the ground was cleared, although everyone expected the Rangers to score. The play was then transferred to the Rangers ground, where McMahon after flooring Haddow, almost scored a second point for the Celts. Just on halftime Campbell scored a second goal for the Celts, and however well Haddow had hitherto saved well aimed shots, no will blame him in being unable to stop the ball in this occasion, Campbell kicking it into the net with great force and precision. Halftime Result – Celtic 2: Rangers 0. After the kick off the Celtic at once bore down on the Rangers and secure a corner kick, but the Ibrox men cleared their ground in no time. J McPherson landed the ball right in Cullen’s hands, but the latter caught it cleverly, and by a dexterous movement got quit of the ball before he could be charged by the Rangers forwards. The Celts, it was noticed, were keeping up the pressure against the wind, when everyone expected they would have been busily engaged defending their goal. It took the Rangers indeed, some time and trouble to free themselves occasionally from this pressure, but this they accomplished only however to be repulsed by Dunbar and Doyle when they got neat the Celts goal. From a corner kick Kerr almost headed the ball through the Celts goal, but the ball just passed over the bar. The Rangers had a rare chance of scoring following a well-sustained attack on the Celts goal, but when the chance came the forwards got mixed up and the opportunity was lost. The Celts through McMahon scored a third goal, although Haddow vehemently protested against the point being conceded. Referee Allison however never wavered from his first decision, and so the Rangers had to resume play three goals down, thus the match ended – Celtic 3 goals: Rangers 0
