Match Trivia
Before a holiday crowd of fully 10,000 these teams met in the return fixture at Parkhead. The visitors had the advantage of wind and sun, and consequently had the best of the opening passages. Hamilton scored a neat goal after eight mins play, and only the indifferent play of A Smith prevented McArthur being beaten again. The Celts indulged in close passing, and were seldom dangerous; but on the other hand the home defence was much superiors to the spasmodic forward play of the Rangers, and so halftime came without further scoring. Graham struck the crossbar on resuming, as did Marshall at the other end. The Celts improved, and after Hodge had missed from Bell, Russell scored with a long shot. Hodge gained the lead for his side, and shortly put through a third, which was disallowed. The Rangers were now entirely outplayed, and near the end failed to score from a penalty. Play became very rough towards the finish. Result – Celtic 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal. The amount drawn at the gate and stands was £315.
