Match Trivia
This important match was decided at Celtic Park, in glorious summer like weather, before fully 28,000 spectators. Contrary to their usual custom, the Celts made the pace at the start, but their shooting was far below their midfield work. The Rangers were seldom-round McArthur, but they were very dangerous nevertheless, and shots from Campbell and Gibson taxed McArthur. After half an hour’s play McMahon headed the first goal, and though chances came to both teams, this was the only goal at the interval. The restart was most sensational, Dickie misjudging a free kick and putting through his own goal. Thereafter the Rangers improved, and scored twice through Hamilton and Robertson. These successes told the inevitable tale, and further blundering on the part of the Celtic allowed Hamilton to gain the lead three minutes from time. Play became desperate as time drew near, and in absolutely the last kick of the game Hodge put the Celts level. The teams merely lined up when the whistle sounded, a most exciting gamed ending – Celtic 3 goals: Rangers 3 goals. The gate amounted to £650 and stands £250. The match will be replayed at Ibrox next Saturday.
