These teams played a friendly game yesterday on the formers ground, which was very soft. The attendance numbered about 10,000. Oswald kicked off, and his colleague in the front rank carried the ball with commendable combination down to McArthur, who successfully negotiated a fine effort by Barker. The Celts thereafter gave a capital exhibition of the dribbling art and Ferguson was the first to evade Bell’s vigilance after fifteen minutes. This success on the part of the Celts nettled the Rangers, who got on equal terms from a shot by A Smith. A minute later Oswald got the ball home a second time, and immediately afterwards the same layer netted the ball a third time, the point being disallowed on an appeal for a breach of the offside rule. Ultimately Martin capped a pass by Ferguson close on halftime. A fluke by Crawford almost gave the Celts a lead again, Bell being somewhat lucky in saving. At the interval the score was 2 goals each. On resuming both teams played a splendid game, the attack and defence being excellent. The game was intensely fast and brilliant mistakes being of rare occurrence. Crawford, the Rangers reserve back, surpassed all the previous efforts by giving an almost faultless display of kicking and tackling. Barker shadowed Doyle throughout the game, but the back had often the better of him. Latterly the game was invested with some bad temper, and the referee was obliged to penalise both sides on several occasions. This was the only blot of one of the finest games seen this season, in which every player proved himself a first-class exponent. The Celts third goal was the result of an excellent run by the forwards who entrusted Madden with the parting and successful shot. Battles, after being cautioned for rough play, was ultimately ordered off the field. He will of course be reported to the SFA who will hear the case at their next meeting. The Celts had therefore only ten players during the last quarter of an hour. Interest was maintained to the close of the game, which ended in a draw – Celtic 3 goals: Rangers 3 goals.
