Match Trivia

The above clubs brought off a holiday fixture at Celtic Park, before 15,000 spectators. Celtic kicked off, and at once made for Haddow. Dunbar having a try at goal, which was rather high. From the goal kick the Rangers came away with a beautiful run, the passing being very precise and tricky, and from a scrimmage near goal Gray scored amid much excitement. The light blues seemed in the mood, and were quickly back again, the Celts goal undergoing a constant siege for several minutes, when Gray from a beautiful shot from A McCreadie, knocked the ball from Cullen’s hand into the net. With two goals u the visitors went at it very energetically, and Cullen had plenty to do for a time, but Reynolds, who all along had been playing a grand defence, brought relief with a strong kick, and the play was transferred to the Rangers quarters, where Haddow had to fist out several times. The Rangers right broke away in brilliant style, and from fine combined play got well down, and McPherson scored with a low swift shot, which Cullen could not reach. Halftime result – Rangers 3 goals: Celtic nil. The Celts seemed determined to reduce this lead, and started at a rattling place, and brushing aside all opposition, they made their way for Haddow, Dunbar capping this run with a goal. This success stimulated the home team, and they were immediately preparing away at Haddow’s charge, but could not find an opening. McPherson and McCreadie romped off by themselves, and the former, who was in great shooting form, sent in a stinging shot, which Cullen had some trouble in getting away, as Gray was down on him like a flash, and the ball was kept bobbing about within the twelve yards limit, but without success. A foul in front of the Rangers goal was ell taken, and Divers scored. Some splendid play on both sides ensured. Marshall’s blocking and tackling quite baffling any attempts on the part of McMahon and Divers to combing and the Rangers again had the best of matters although they could not add further to their score. The whistle blew with the Rangers surrounding their opponent’s goal a well-contested game ending in a win for the Rangers by 3 goals to 2.
