Match Trivia

On Whitefield Park, before a large concourse of spectators. The home team front line was composed of those men who several years ago represented the club when they won the Glasgow Cup, and great things were expected from them. Rangers won the toss and elected to play uphill – Plenderleith for the home team setting the ball in motion. The home team gradually settled and adopting some of their old tactics, managed to get within shooting distance of Haddow, but the ball went behind. Midfield play followed, and several exciting encounters took place between the home forwards and the Rangers halfbacks. At last, however the Rangers getting steadied about midfield ran the ball to within 10 yards of Ross’s charge, and the left wing letting go No.1 for the strangers resulted. The villages for a time gave Haddow and his colleagues a hard time of it; in fact they had lines in not notching a point. The Rangers again steadied and ran off at great speed, the result being a second goal for them, Smith the home back, missing the ball and allowing it to roll through just out of Ross’s reach. Halftime found the visitors leading by 2 goals. On resuming not many minutes had gone till the visitors scored was raised to three, after a magnificent run by McPherson. Cambuslang, after this reverse responded gamely, but there half’s did not feed well, and splendid opportunities of improving matters on their side were thereby lost. Another beautiful passing run by the visitors, in which all of the forwards took part, resulted in another goal being scored, and from that to the finish the visitors, with the exception of a few spasmodic dashes goal wards by the home forwards, may be said to have the upper hand, during which period, they raised their score to 6, the largest score Cambuslang have had against them during the entire season. The result therefore was – Rangers 6 goals: Cambuslang 0.
