Match Trivia

The Rangers met Cambuslang on the ground of the latter and beat them by five goals to one. The strangers won the toss for choice of ends and of course elected to play with a strong gusty wind at their backs. A few minutes of even play followed the kick-off on behalf of the home team but the Rangers men were not long in getting the ball up to Cambuslang goal where some clever passing by Gossland, Pringle and Hamilton was too much for the county club’s backs and the latter sent the ball spinning through. The teams then faced up again from midfield and Buchanan made a short run down on the Rangers lines but Masqualine soon had the ball clear, and passing it to Inglis that layer assisted by Hamilton and Heggie guided past Semple and Inglis made a second record for the Glasgow team by a nice piece of play. Two goals in ten minutes was just coming it rather fast for Cambuslang chance of winning the tie and after the next kick-off they made a gallant struggle to get near the Rangers goal but indifferent passing at the twenty-five yard flag spoiled a good chance and McIntyre had the ball back to the centre from which part of the field Pringle got possession and the other forwards closing in they were able to clear the way of the defenders and Gossland scored goal No.3 The Rangers had now the game fairly on hand for in other ten minutes Pringle made a fourth and before half-time was announced Gossland a fifth so that the strangers changed sides with no fewer than five goals to the good. On play being resumed by the Rangers kicking off Hamilton made a nice run well up on the Cambuslang goal before he was smartly taken to task by Smith whose kicking throughout was clean and neat. After this the local team pressed their opponents pretty severely and were several times within an ace of scoring but the Rangers backs and goalkeeper performed their difficult work brilliantly and the ball was as often cleared away. At length however a good run the forwards enabled R Dalrymple to get the better of the Rangers backs and a good shot from his right foot past on record the only point gained for Cambuslang during the entire game. Just before time was called the Rangers broke away several times and had the ball right in front of the Cambuslang posts but defective play loss two chances after the leather had been cleverly brought up once by Pringle and another time by Hamilton who dribbled nearly the whole length of the field. The game thus ended in favour of the Rangers by five goals to one
