Match Trivia

These two clubs played their first game of the season at Bolton and the celebrity of the Glasgow men who having added fresh laurels to their wreath by defeat of the famous Queen’s Park brought together a crowd of Lancashire men to the extent of about 4000. At the start the Caledonian players seemed to have the upper hand of their opponents and the predictions early in the game were that the Scots were too much for the Bolton lads. This however did not prove to be the case as after the visitors had repeatedly unsuccessfully assailed the home team citadel in the first hour Steel, Struthers and Cox (ex Glasgow Rangers) rushed the ball down to the mouth of the Scotch goal and after a corner by Cox, Steel score the first and only goal for Bolton. After this the visitors did not leave one stone unturned to change the appearance of the score but though they had some golden chances of scoring they never got the ball past the Bolton goalkeeper and finished up by acting on the defensive, Bolton being hailed the victors by one goal to none
