Match Trivia

Despite the extremely unpleasant weather, more than 1000 people had come to the Hohe Watte on Whit Monday to attend the interesting match between the Glasgow Rangers and the Boldklubben. In light rain, the two teams entre the field and offer the spectators immediately the pretty picture of the fight of two highly educated trained highly educated opponents. The Danes are the physical stronger ones. The beginning of the game brings two sharp attacks of the Scots, who soon achieved the first goal. The Rangers obviously get used to the poor ground conditions, and their shooting and combination abilities are just a little affected by the ball-drenched ball-ball technique in the totally sodden ground in front of the goal. They push the Danes all across the field, where especially the goalkeeper of the Danes is forced by the famous centre-forwards of the Glasgow to good performance. The Scots have substantially changed their tactics from the previous day and adapted them to the existing conditions. They bring the ball, which is heavy due to the oozing of the sticking mud, in a short, flat pass-play in front of the goal. In the field of action of the Danes goalkeeper, however the attack ceases as a result of the mud lying there. In the Boldklubben the right wing is the strong side, and it can be dangerous to the professionals if there are isolated breakthroughs. Both sides are offered beautiful performances and the Rangers soon achieve their second goal, a masterpiece of the three strikers. Immediately after the kick-off they scored the third goal. The Rangers are now pushing hard and under the great joy of the audience falls the fourth goal; ball and striker are united in the net. As the man raises again, a thick layer of dirt cover his beautiful deep blue and white costume. The Danes, despite their effort, cannot free themselves from the grip, and instead a dangerous crowd form in front of the goal, and they roll the ball into their net. Now it starts raining in torrents and they already want to break off the game, but the arbitration referee, Mr George Fucks asked the teams, to hold out in the rain. The tempo, of course, slow down and, as a result of some crasher in front of the goals, is almost imposable to see the difference between the colours of the teams. Actually, the match in the weather was not amateur, but sill professional due to the hard work of both teams. The Scots are playing almost better than before, and at times their opponents have almost nothing of the game. Half-time 5:0. After a short break, the two teams continue playing, and the Boldklubben take the offensive. Them seemed to have improved on their first half performance, but cannot succeed; on the contrary, the Scots break through suddenly, the Danish defence is overrun and the sixth goal for Scotland is scored. The rain starts to let off and the players breathe. Rangers are back in the field of the Danes and soon are at the Danish goalkeeper, a striker and – the ball in the net. Then come for the Scots some critical minutes, in which they give away two corners and a free kick within the eleven metre line. In the last few minutes, the scene of the fight often changes as the Danes attack vigorously. Smith of the Rangers fills his post as a right back in an almost exemplary manner and wrongs all attacks. Speedie the brilliant scorer of the Scots, gives lessons in his field and tells glittering individual achievements in his breakthrough two goals. The final score being 9:0 and both teams had a lively ovation by the audience.
