Match Trivia
At Airdrie before 12,000 people, these teams played their first game of the League tourney. The opening boded ill for the Rangers as in a rush O’Rorke managed to head in a soft goal off Currie that only just managed to reach the net. Some five minutes later a general assault was finished by Tarbet heading a beautiful second goal, that Sinclair had no chance to save. Before halftime a mistake by two of the home side gave Hamilton a glorious chance, which he promptly took, the shot being too fast for Duncan to hold, and it found the goal off the posts. At halftime Airdrie led by 2 to 1. On resuming the second half play ran for a time somewhat in favour of the Rangers, but their finishing was bad and Airdrie defence too strong. Then Airdrie came again, and from that on the Rangers were quite outclassed by the eager Airdrieonians, who simply overwhelmed the city team. Thomson led the way with a brilliant third goal, and before the Rangers had recovered, Findlay completely clinched matters with a raking shot that left Sinclair standing. To crown all, Tarbet ran home a fifth, and the rout was complete – a record against the Rangers of 5 to 1. There was hardly that difference in the play of the sides, but apart from a period at the beginning of the second half, the Rangers never looked like coping with the all-round sterling play of the Airdrie team
