Bravo Airdrie! Beaten but not disgraced. The Ibrox people sitting near me were becoming seriously perturbed as time went on and no goals forthcoming. Nor was it a case of lots of pressure and no reward quite the opposite. During the first half, Airdrie had as much of the game as Rangers, with this exception they were the more dangerous lot. After the resumption, Rangers were certainly on top, but not overwhelmingly so. Easy scoring chances had been thrown away by players on both sides. Ross, Mooney and Hogg were Airdries sinner, and Fiddes, Turnbull and Venters chucked away sitters for Ibrox. Came the last quarter of an hour and still no scoring, although I fancied, I could detect a weakening in the home rear lines before the now insistent onslaught of Venters and McPhail, forced on by the crafty Davie Meiklejohn. Simpson found time to go forward and force matters. A corner placed kick, Venters scored ten minutes from the end. A despairing raid by the diminutive home forwards was held up, not without considerable difficulty, and back came Rangers. Venters and McPhail were now full of confidence and the former finished a lovely dribble by sending into Hawthorns net with two minutes to go. Rangers got there all right, but they to fight for the points. Airdrie played a great game and should win safety easily if they can maintain yesterdays form. The Ibrox defenders were good, so was Simpson and Meiklejohn was the number one enemy to the home lot. Smith hadnt a good day, neither had Fiddes and it was only when Venters and McPhail struck their true form late in the game that the Ibrox machine began to function. Turnbull is a good player and will be better when he gets to know his colleagues. Hawthorn had some fine saves, but his backs were often indebted to McAllister for his timely intervention. Hogg, I thought, was too impulsive. Ross was fairly good, Law and Connor definitely so, but Mooney could make nothing of Dougie Gray.
