With the Rangers’ side hardly recognised and Aberdeen depending largely on the Gordon Highlanders’ Depot in order to complete their eleven it is little wonder that the Pittodrie game was rather dull. Had their forwards been more alive to the opportunities presented them at close quarters, Aberdeen should have won. Rangers had slightly the best if the opening half, and Gordon had a lovely effort well saved by Anderson. At the other end Walker had hard lines with a header following a corner by Archibald, and Cummings brought Hempsey full length to the ground with a long ranger. In the second half Paton, after twice rounding Taylor, failed in front of Hempsey. Aberdeen did everything but score. Five minutes from the close Gordon almost pulled the match out of the fire for Rangers, a terrific drive going straight for the net, when Brewster diverted the ball out of danger. For Aberdeen Anderson, Colman and Perry formed a grand defence. Paton played too much to his partner. It would have paid him and his side better to have nursed Cumming more. For Rangers Taylor played well, and the left half was the best of the line. Brander was the cleverest forward
