Match Trivia
Rangers had to go all the way to beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Rangers substitutes performed so well that good as Gordon and Co are, they were not missed. The 22,000 spectators were treated to a delightful display, particularly by Rangers. The Light Blues had more of the play in the first half, but so well did Colman and Hannah defend that the period had almost spent itself ere Rangers opened their account through Paterson. Aberdeen appealed against the decision on the ground that Low who crossed to Paterson was offside, but Referee Johnston did not heed. Although Rangers kept play mostly confined to Andersons end of the field, the goalkeeper had only one difficult ball to handle, which he did in masterly fashion. Rangers second goal, scored by Walls from far out, looked a simple effort, but the swerve of the ball seemed to deceive Anderson, while a cluster of player in front of him did not improve his chances of saving. The second half was more evenly contested. Aberdeen came away strongly, and experienced hard luck on several occasions. Lock made several daring saves. The artistry of Paterson was much admired, most of the Rangers attacks being initiated by the left wing. It was well for Aberdeen that Colman was in his best fettle. Although much slower than of yore, his judgment was sound. Henderson led Rangers forwards well, while Meiklejohn gave a sound display for a first appearance. Anderson, Colman, Hannah, Milne, Yule and Connon deserve special praise for Aberdeen
