Match Trivia

On the ground of the former at Underwood Park, Paisley, the above teams met in their League fixture. There was good attendance of spectators, though the match was played in a downfall of snow. The ball was set a going by Millar, and was at once carried down near Haddow by the Abercorn front lot. Some play ensured in front of the Rangers custodian, but Hodge and Dunbar kept the home team from scoring. A good attempt by Munro and Watson almost came off, as Haddow had to strike out. Then Kerr and Barker changed the play. Their work however went for nothing, as the ball was run over the line. But, having got into the territory of the Abercorn, the Rangers there remained till they accomplished their purpose, and this was done by Law beating Duff in an easy manner. The work leading up to the goal was that of H McCreadie and Watt. Well supported by Buchanan, Bowie and Reid, the Abercorn forwards, strove hard to make up for the loss. They remained in dangerous proximity to the Rangers charge, and good shooting was sent in by Shaw, McLung and Watson. Nearing halftime Watt made a splendid run along his wing, and closed by placing the ball right in front of Duff. This led to an interesting scrimmage, but in the end the Cuthertson’s came out with flying colours. Immediately afterwards halftime was given, with the score then being – Rangers 1: Abercorn 0. The Rangers commenced the second half with great determination. In a body they gathered in front of Duff, and kept him busy in defending. Capital assistance was given by the back division men. The Rangers were playing strongly, and bustled keenly in close quarters. Latterly Reid got them back from danger. The Abercorn front lot then got near Haddow, who had to use his hands to avert disaster. The remainder of the game was keenly contested. Duff played a fine game for his side. Result – Rangers 1 goal: Abercorn 0 goals.
