Match Trivia

Played on the ground of the former at Blachstoun Park Paisley in presence of about 3000 spectators. The Rangers won the toss, and the Abercorn kicked off aginst a slight northwesterly breeze. During the first half of the game the Rangers had only ten men forwards, and at first it seemed as if their numerical weakness were going to tell against them, as for some time after the leather was put in motion the battle was confined to their end of the field, but despite several chances which fell to the Abercorn they failed to score. The strangers thus managed to get the ball down the field, but shortly afterwards the Abercorn had another look in, but Munro kicked behind. The game continued in favour of the Abercorn and twice their forwards shot for goal, but the ball each time struck the crossbar and returned into play. After some give-and-take play the Rangers increased their exertions, and after a fine run down the field McIntyre succeeded in placing the first point to the credit of the Rangers. Shortly after matters were equalised when, after a tussle in front of the Rangers post J Johnstone succeeded in scoring for his side. A few minutes later a free kick fell to the Rangers just in front of their opponenets uprights, and Fraser managed to get the ball through. No further scoring took place in the first half. The Rangers absentee turned up for the second half, during which they succeeded in retaining their advantage over the Abercorn, placing other two goals to their credit before the whistle blew, while the Abercorn only succeeded in scoring once. Throughout the match the brilliant play of the Rangers right wing forwards was conspicuous and as a whole the play of the home team was inferior to that of the strangers. The game resulted in favour of the strangers by 4 goals to 2.
