Many consider ‘Big Ben’ to be the greatest Rangers centre half of them all.
4 League Championships, 4 Scottish Cups and 2 League Cups and a key figure within our first ever treble winning side of 1948/49 would support this view.
Woodburn was, of course, suspended sine die in September 1954 and whilst the ban was eventually lifted, he would never play for Rangers again.
He died in 2001 at the age of 82.
“His name was Willie Woodburn and his crime was too much heart
He gave his all for Rangers, on the field of Ibrox Park
Then they banished him forever, the one they call sine die
The name of Willie Woodburn, in our 💙 will never die”
