One in a long line of great Rangers wingers, Alex played over 300 times the Club during which time he won 4 League Championship medals to accompany his Scottish Cup (1959/60) and League Cup (1960/61 & 1961/62) winners gongs. Alex would score in the 1960/61 win over Kilmarnock at Hampden, one of 115 goals he netted during his time at Ibrox.
Succeeding the legendary Willie Waddell on the right wing, Alex made a scoring debut against hometown side Falkirk at the age of 18, a 4-1 win at Ibrox in March 1955 in which he would complete a second half hat-trick! The side would contain the likes of Caldow, McColl, Young & Simpson.
He would become a bit of a European specialist in the years to come, scoring against the likes of Anderlecht, Red Star Belgrade, Borussia Monchengladbach & Wolves. The goals against the latter two of those sides came in the ECWC run of 1960/61 in which we would go all the way to the Final. We would sadly suffer defeat to Fiorentina but Alex would become the first player to score for Rangers in a European Final, netting in the second leg over in Italy. For many years Alex was our record scorer in Euro competition, eventuality overtaken by Ally McCoist in 1997 (McCoist himself subsequently eclipsed by Alfredo Morelos).
The emergence of another outstanding winger by the name of Willie Henderson curtailed the Rangers career of Alex Scott and he headed South to Merseyside in February 1963. Still very much at the top of his own game, he helped Everton to win the English League Championship within months of his arrival, their first title since the war. He followed this up with an FA Cup medal in 1966 as the toffees defeated Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 at Wembley.
Alex passed away in September 2001 at just 64 years of age.
