Match Trivia
Rangers won 5-4 on pens after extra time. Two players sent off . . . a dramatic penalty shoot-out . . . and another Old Firm Cup Final. That was the outcome of Rangers’ Glasgow Cup semi-final clash with Clyde at Firhill last night. Trouble erupted in the 73rd minute when Clyde’s Willie Watters, who had just come on, appeared to kick Rangers substitute Alex McEwan as he lay on the ground. Ally Dawson intervened – and both he and Watters were ordered off by referee Gerry Evans. Colin McGlashan had given Clyde a 35th minute lead but just before the interval John Spencer equalised for a Rangers side almost entirely composed of youth players. And in a nervous penalty decider it took a total of 14 kicks before Rangers emerged 5-4 winners. It now leaves the Ibrox side with a problem over the Final which the SFA have ruled must be played before Wednesday, May 13. Rangers’ first team pool are scheduled to be in Israel on a week’s holiday at that time
