Match Trivia

Giving a brilliant all round display in our first match of our American tour. Rangers defeated Philadelphia by 8 goals to 2. The ground was hard, but the Rangers players soon mastered the conditions. They discarded individualism, and went in for quick passing along the ground, which allowed the Philadelphia team little chance to offer effective resistance. Scoring began early, and at the interval Rangers led by 5 goals to 1. The spectator seemed to enjoy the exhibition of Scottish football even if the home team was being so badly beaten. All the Rangers’ players proved themselves perfectly fit, but the test was not so severe as we expect to encounter in subsequent matches. Rangers’ scorers were McPhail 2, Fleming 2 and Buchanan, Cunningham, Morton and Craig one each. Out next match is with Brooklyn on Saturday when, we are told, there will be a great crowd, and stiff opposition.
