Match Trivia

Tour of Germany - Rangers yesterday carried on in the winning way in Germany. In topical weather Hamburg Victoria were beaten three goals to one by an Ibrox side superior in every department. At the interval, before which Simpson, the Scots centre half-back was injured, neither side had scored, the Hamburg defence having played grandly. Simpson remained on the field until the finish, and the Rangers ran out good winners by 3 goals to 1. To do so, however, they had to put their best foot forward, as goals were very difficult to get. Smith (two) and Marshall were the scorers. Another splendid reception was given the Scots by a fine sporting crowd 20,000 strong. The Glasgow tourists are enjoying every minute of the trip. From the kick-off the Scotsmen showed their superiority in all respects of the game, their headwork particularly causing admiration. The German goal was menaced repeatedly but the Rangers were unable to score. Smith missed an open goal by miskicking; then the Germans attacked, but the Scottish defence was too good. At the interval the score sheet was blank. There was mush open play during the early stages of the second half. Then, in the eight minute, a German forward was penalised for hands, and from the ‘the spot’ Marshall scored. Eight minutes later Smith smashed his way through to rattle on a beautiful goal and given the Glasgow men a two-nothing lead. Followed another penalty was awarded – against the Rangers this time, and Rohr, the German centre-forward scored from the spot. Rangers relaxed somewhat and the Germans attacked serval times, to miss many chances. Then, in the final minute Smith headed another goal to give the Rangers a three goal to one victory
