North American Tour - The Glasgow Rangers demonstrated yesterday that their 3 to 2 victory over Fall Rover on Memorial Day was not just a lucky win, as they turned back to national champions again, 6 to 1, ay the Polo Grounds, completing a highly successful tour of the United States and Canada. The Scottish League winners were on top all of the way, their brilliant pass-work standing out in particular. Their defence, unlike Fall River’s was almost faultless and their attack, especially in the second period, carried the play to the New Englander’s territory for the better part of the contest. In Jimmy Smith, the centre forward, the Rangers have a great soccer player, who was at his best in yesterday’s game, scoring four of his team’s goals. His first tally came after more than a half hour of play in the initial period and was the only goal scored before the restart. Fall River spent a lot of energy trying to take the play away from the Rangers in this first session, but they were unable to score and just before the period ended, they seemed to let down in their efforts to force the Rangers to fight with their backs to the net.
Rangers made a splendid finish to a wonderful tour here today, when they defeated Fall Rover in handsome style. The match had aroused tremendous interest in New York, and a crowd of 20,000 people rolled up to see the Scottish champions meet Fall River, who had held them to a goal margin at New Bedford on May 30. Play was very fast, and the Fall River team did so well that only one goal was lost before the interval. Smith, playing centre-forward, got this one. In the second half the Glasgow team fairly let themselves go and giving a magnificent exhibition of combined play and shooting power, swept the Fall River defence off their feet. Smith got three more goals, and Fleming, who was playing outside-right, scored two. A momentary slackness in the Scottish defence let the Fall River forwards through to register their only point. The crowd gave the winners an ovation and there were many hearty congratulations offered on having gone through a testing tour carrying an unbroken record of victory.
