Rangers opened the season at Ibrox Park last night with a match with the Hibernian. The fixture attracted a capital attendance close upon 3000 spectators being present. Both clubs were strongly represented, the Rangers having out the eleven, which will probably for the most part represent them throughout the season. In the first half play was equally divided, but the Hibernian had any luck going. McColl kicked off and the ‘Light Blues’ at once attacked, but Stark and Hamilton made a mess of chances and sent the ball past. Rennie and his backs defended strongly, and ultimately the siege was raised by Hagan and Stewart, and a pass from the latter was headed into the net by Morgan. After very open play the interval came with the score one goal to nothing in favour of the visitors. In the second half lay was of a give-and-take nature, with occasional brilliant incidents. One of these was a capital bit of combination by Stewart, Hagan and Grieve, who for some time gave the home defence an anxious time. On the other side Smith had a good individual dash, poorly finished by Hamilton who missed an open goal. Towards the close Rangers seemed to relax their effort to draw equal, and the Hibernian had the better of the final exchanges. Result – Hibernian 1 goal: Rangers 0
