Match Trivia

Nicol Smith Benefit Match Played on Ibrox Park before about 8000 spectators. Rangers played with the wind at their backs in the first half, but though they had the bulk of the play the could not break through the Queen’s defence, which was very sound, only once in a while did a shot come near Eadie. The Queen’s forwards if not bright as a combination, were smart in their movements, and bothered Fraser, and his partner a good deal. Near the interval Rangers forced a corner, but failed to score. TF Campbell did not come out in the second half, his place being filled by another player, and the game was much faster and more interesting. McColl and Donnachie showing splendid speed and judgement, while Jones on the other side had several grand shots at Sinclair’s goal. McColl and length was rewarded for his perseverance, and after a grand single-handed run fro midfield he scored the first goal of the game, and shortly after McPhee equalised. Result – A draw – 1 goal each.
