Match Trivia
George Hogg the Hearts oldest player, who has now been with them about 12 years, took his well-deserved benefit last night when the Rangers and Hearts met in a friendly game at Tynecastle, Edinburgh. Both clubs were well represented and the weather was all that could be desired. The Hearts started the game, and in the opening exchanges Rangers got away, and Paton opened the scoring. After some midfield play the Hearts got away, and took the play close to Dickie’s charge. Porteous shot for goal, but the ball struck the crossbar, and bounded back to ‘Roberts’ who scored for the Hearts. Three minutes later some smart work by the Rangers forwards terminated in Paton scoring. The Hearts followed with a break away, and after a lot of scrambling at the goalmouth the leather was sent past. A long kick put an open goal in front of Paton, but Veitch cleared. Paton shortly afterwards made another attempt, but Veitch was not to be beaten again clearing. Haltime – Rangers 2 goals: Hearts 1 goal. After the interval the game ran on more open lines, but the Rangers soon broke away and Paton sending in a smart shot, which Veitch could not save, the Rangers took the lead. A second try was made, but Paton shot past. The Hearts then had a look in, and Bell passed to Porteous, but the latter shot high and wide. Shortly afterwards Mackie scored a fourth goal for the Rangers. A corner for the visitors followed but nothing fruitful resulted. After some hard work near Dickie’s charge Key put in a splendid shot, which Dickie could not stop. Nothing more noteworthy took place up to the call of time. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Hearts 2 goals.
