Match Trivia
John McPherson Benefit Match. A friendly match for the benefit of Johnny McPherson the old Rangers player was played on Ibrox Park before about 400 spectators. Both sides included several juniors who were on trial. Play in the first half was very even, but Rangers were more frequently dangerous. Rennie having to save several good shots from Mackie and Graham, both of whom showed much better form than the regular players. Kerr had a lot of worrying work to do to hols Lennie and Graham, but the Perthshire lad was very smart in his tackling and placing and gave McCartney many good chances to break through, but Murray held him well. Halftime, no scoring. Without leaving the field the teams crossed over and resumed, and after the Hibs had pressed for a time the Rangers front rank got away, and from a pass by Hamilton near goal Mackie found an opening and scored. The Hibs made splendid efforts to equalise and after a futile corner the right pair got on a swift shot was sent in which struck the upright and rebounded into the net. With the scores level both teams played good football, and Hogg almost sent into his own net in trying to clear. The Rangers were playing with more method than their opponents, and Hamilton scored a smart goal close in. A few minutes from time Dunlop scored from a penalty. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Hibs 1
