Match Trivia
Ibrox Disaster Fund Benefit Match. These teams met on Ibrox Park yesterday afternoon in a friendly fixture for the benefit of the Ibrox Disaster Fund. The weather being fine there was a fair turnout when the teams lined up. Starting fully a quarter of an hour later the visitors at once tried to rush matters, but Crawford and Speedie between them kept their opponents at pretty safe distance, and Wallace for a time had it easy. At the other end, however Phillip was kept ever on the alert by Hamilton and Graham who both seemed in the best mood. The shooting of both sets of forwards at first seemed a bit off, but as the interval drew nigh they showed improvement, with the result that Wallace and Phillip both got lots to do. Hearts were first however to gain an opening, and this through Inglis, who beat Wallace after Johnstone had thrown away an open goal. This had the effect of making Rangers open out, and some really good football was shown. Of the homesters Hamilton was the most dangerous and after several unsuccessful attempts he managed to put on the equaliser. Crossing over on level terms the second half was resumed. Rangers immediately forcing matters. So persistent was their attack that Phillip found himself beaten by Hamilton after Lennie had performed a smart bit of work on the left. Hearts had not to wait long ere Fleming put them level once more, a shot of his from long range fairly taking Wallace unawares, and although both sides kept up the pace till the finish no further scoring took place, and a good game ended Rangers 2: Hearts 2
