Match Trivia
The first match played on Ibrox Park sine the disaster on April 5 took place last night, when the home team opposed the Hibernian in a friendly game. There was a poor attendance. Hibs won the toss and with a strong sun in their eyes Rangers kicked off. Rennie was early called upon to clear a long shot, and at the other end Dickie was equally successful. A corner for the strangers proved abortive, mainly through an effective clearance by Neil. The wet grass proved trying to both teams, and miss kicks were frequent. Though with a weakened team Hibs forced the game, and the combination of Day and McGinnes brought the Eastern eleven the first goal. Well out on the wing Day shot in and Dickie scarped clear. The ball however came to Buchan, and the outside left man had no difficulty in sending into the net. At the other end Rangers pressed for some time and a surprise shot by Graham equalised the score. Close on halftime Atherton by a brilliant individual effort scored a second goal, and a couple of minutes later Buchan registered a third. Halftime – Hibs 3 goal: Rangers 1. Rangers began the second half with vim, but it was not long before the Hibs retaliated in kind, and the scene of operations was around Dickie. Play ranged from end to end, Rennie had to deal with a corner kick, and the next minute Dickie was busy. He weakly cleared, and Buchan made the Hibernian total 4. Though 3 goals to the bad, Rangers showed no diminution of effort, and they pegged away, but were decidedly unfortunate in front of Rennie. Towards the finish of the game the play was equally divided. Result – Hibernian 4 goals: Rangers 1
