Match Trivia

The postponed holiday fixture between Rangers and a select team of Dumfries was successfully brought off on Saturday at Palmerston Park. There was a crowd of about 4,000 present, and the finest football weather prevailed. The stand was decorated with red, while, and blue draperies in honour of the League champions. The Rangers had out their full League eleven, with the exception of Neilly Gibson and RC Hamilton, while the select team was virtually Dumfries – Robison at right half and Boyle at inside left being the only changes in the usual eleven. The local players gave a plucky exhibition, and were first to score, Percy beating Dickie with a lovely shot early in the game. A pleasant and well-contested game, in which the visitors delighted the spectators with numerous clever and tricky touches, ended in a win for Rangers by 5 goals to 3. Best players for Dumfries were Percy, Robison, R Kirkpatrick and Boyle, in order of merit
